Custom lists for your watchlist

Your watchlist holds everything you might watch one day. A list holds the few that belong together: date night, the kids’ Saturday film, the shows to catch up on before a new season.

Date night

Films we would both say yes to. Nothing over two hours on a weeknight.

  1. 1

    Before Sunrise (1995)

Mostly talking, in the best way. For when we want something gentle.

  2. 2

    Palm Springs (2020)

Funny, short and a bit romantic. An easy yes.

  3. 3

    The Big Sick (2017)

A true story that is funnier than it sounds.

What a list is

A list has a name, a line or two on what it is for, and its titles in the order you choose.

Each title gets a note: why it is on this list. That note is what makes a list useful later. “Before Sunrise” means nothing in six months. “For when we want something gentle” tells you exactly when to pick it.

Titles stay on your watchlist as well. A list just groups them. And a list can hold things you have already watched, so a rewatch list or a ranked top ten works too.

How to make one

  1. Open any title’s menu and choose Add to list. Tick the lists it belongs on, or name a new list right there.
  2. Or open Your lists from the dashboard and start one from scratch.
  3. On the list’s page, write the intro, add a note to each title, and move titles up or down.
  4. To share it, press Publish. You pick a username the first time, and write a description of at least 40 characters.

Each title links to its own page, and titles on your watchlist show where they are streaming. So a list doubles as a plan for the evening.

5 private lists, and unlimited public ones

You can keep 5 private lists at a time.

That covers the lists that get used most: something to watch together, something for a particular mood, something you are working through. When one has done its job, like a Halloween list in November, delete it and the space is free again. Deleting a list never touches your watchlist.

Public lists have no limit, and making a list public frees its private place.

Private, unless you publish

Nobody else can see your private lists, including people you share your watchlist with. Sharing shows them your watchlist and what you have both saved, not how you have grouped it.

Publish a list and it gets a page of its own, credited to your username, with your note on each title and where it streams in the reader’s country. It comes with words already written for sharing it on X, Threads, Bluesky, WhatsApp and the rest. Anyone who likes it can copy it to their own lists.

A public list shows up in Google once it has a description and 8 titles. You can make it private again at any time. See members’ public lists

Questions

How many lists can I have?
Up to 5 private lists for now, and as many public ones as you like. Publishing a list frees its private place.
Can other people see my lists?
Only the ones you publish. Private lists are yours alone, including from people you share your watchlist with. A public list gets a page that anyone with the link can see.
What does a public list show?
Your username and its initial, the list’s name and description, the titles and your note on each. Never your email, your ratings or the rest of your watchlist.
When does a public list show up in Google?
Once it has a description and at least 8 titles. Before that, anyone with the link can see it, but search engines are asked to leave it out.
Can I copy someone else’s list?
Yes. Save this list, on any public list, puts every title on your watchlist and the list itself, notes and all, in your lists, to change as you like. Copy this list keeps just the list.
Can a list include films I have already watched?
Yes. A list holds any title, watched or not, which is what makes a comfort rewatch list or a ranked top ten work.
Does removing a title from a list remove it from my watchlist?
No. A list only groups titles. Removing one, or deleting the whole list, leaves your watchlist exactly as it was.
Does it cost anything?
No. Watchlist Boosted is free, with no paywall.
